Contest a trust decision in the Utopia sandbox
To contest a trust decision in the OktoID sandbox, write to the trust contact, trust@digital-insight.us, with the decision you contest, the organization it concerns and your reasons. You get an acknowledgement, then an answer that gives its reasons.
The sandbox at sandbox.oktoid.app is a demonstration. Its trust anchor is the
Republic of Utopia, a fictional state, and its governance framework, the
Republic of Utopia Digital Trust Framework, has no legal effect. A dispute
here is handled in good faith, but its outcome changes nothing outside the
sandbox.
This is the page the sandbox's governance framework publishes as its dispute route. What the framework is, and where a verifier finds it, is explained in The trust tree.
What you can contest
Any trust decision that affects you:
- an organization admitted to the trust tree that you believe should not be, or one admitted to a role it does not meet the criteria for;
- a refusal to admit your organization;
- the content of a published statement: an organization's name, its place in the tree, or what it is allowed to do;
- a credential an issuer in the sandbox gave you, or refused you, where you believe the issuer broke the framework.
A question about how the platform works is not a dispute. Ask it the same way, and say it is a question.
What to write
Send one message per decision, from an address you can be answered at. Include:
- The decision. What was decided, and when, as precisely as you can.
- The organization. Its name and, if you have it, its entity identifier:
the
https://address of its entity configuration. - The rule. If you know which part of the framework you think was
broken, cite it by its id, for example the admission criterion
registered-purpose. - Your reasons and your evidence. What happened, and what shows it.
- What you ask for. For example: that an admission be reviewed, or that a published name be corrected.
The trust contact never asks for your password, your passkey, a one-time code or a recovery code, and never asks you to scan a QR code. Do not send copies of real identity documents: describe what you saw instead. A message that asks you for any of these is not from the trust contact.
What happens next
- Acknowledgement. You are told that your dispute was received.
- First review. The Utopia Identity Authority, which administers the framework for the governing authority, reads the dispute and, where it needs to, asks the organization concerned for its account.
- Decision. The Republic of Utopia, as governing authority, decides. The person who decides is not the person who made the contested decision.
- Answer. You receive the decision and its reasons, and what will change if the dispute is upheld.
In the sandbox, every role in that sequence is played by the team that runs the sandbox. It is a small team, and the sandbox promises no response time.
Some corrections need capabilities the platform does not have yet, such as suspending or withdrawing an accreditation. When an upheld dispute needs one, the answer says so and says how the sandbox will correct the record instead.
Every admission and publication is recorded in the audit trail under the person who approved it, so a review can see who decided what, and when.
