The DID methods an identifier may use (D3.17). webvh is first because it is the default: an absent method means it everywhere.

  • webvh: did:webvh:<scid>:<host>, a log of signed entries served at /.well-known/did.jsonl. Every change is an entry chained to the one before, and the next update key is committed in advance, so a verifier can tell a key rotation from a substitution;
  • web: did:web:<host>, one document at /.well-known/did.json. No history and no pre-rotation: a key change is indistinguishable from a substitution, and whoever controls the domain can publish a new document as the issuer.
